The Nasarawa State Police Command has rescued two kidnap victims and arrested a suspected kidnapper in separate operations across the state.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday, February 4, 2026, by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, the first incident occurred on February 3 at about 3:10 p.m.
A patrol team of the Anti-Robbery Squad rescued one David, a resident of Tudun Amba area of Lafia, who was allegedly abducted while travelling on a commercial motorcycle from Lafia to Assakio. The police said the motorcyclist diverted into a bush path at Kireyi Village and forcefully took the victim into the forest.
Police operatives on routine patrol reportedly received intelligence about the incident and immediately launched a search operation. The victim was later found and rescued in the bush, while the suspect fled the scene. The victim disclosed that he had been taken to a kidnappers’ den and managed to escape shortly before the arrival of the police.
In a related development, operatives attached to the Gitata Division has arrested one Jamilu Salisu, a native of Ditsenma in Katsina State, over the abduction of a 14-year-old Junior Secondary School 2 student of UBE Gitata.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly abducted the student beside a mosque in Gitata and took him into the forest. The police said the arrest followed information provided by a good Samaritan who sighted the suspect while taking the victim towards a riverbank.
Acting on the tip-off, police operatives swiftly mobilised to the area, arrested the suspect, and rescued the victim. One accomplice, however, escaped and is currently at large.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, has ordered a thorough investigation into the cases and an intensive manhunt for the fleeing suspect.
While reassuring residents of the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, the Commissioner commended members of the public for their timely information and urged continued cooperation with the security agencies.
