The Nasarawa State Hospitals Management Board has constituted a committee to investigate allegations of missing medical equipment at Umaisha General Hospital in Toto Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.
The equipment were reportedly donated to the hospital by Mr Ibrahim Sa’ad, member representing Ugya/Umaisha State Constituency in the Nasarawa House of Assembly.
Dr Egba Edego, Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the board, disclosed this while speaking with newsmen on Thursday in Lafia.
Edego said the committee was constituted immediately after the board saw a video in which the lawmaker alleged that orthopaedic mattresses and fans donated by him to the hospital had been stolen.
He said the investigation was aimed at ensuring transparency and accountability in the management of health facilities, as well as addressing any misinformation surrounding the matter.
According to him, the board has zero tolerance for theft or diversion of hospital equipment, stressing that anyone found culpable would face the consequences.
“The committee has the mandate to identify what was donated by the lawmaker, what was missing, how it got missing and who is responsible,” he said.
Edego said the committee was expected to submit its report as quickly as possible for prompt disciplinary action.
He noted that the government had invested huge resources in equipping general hospitals across the state to improve healthcare delivery.
“Government has invested huge resources in equipping our general hospitals to improve healthcare delivery.
“The support by the lawmaker was to complement the efforts of the government; therefore, we will not tolerate any act of diversion of the items,” he stated.
The CMD further noted that Gov. Abdullahi Sule had directed Dr Gaza Gwamna, Commissioner for Health, to investigate the allegations and ensure that anyone found culpable was sanctioned and prosecuted.
“We will cooperate fully with the committee to be set up by the Commissioner for Health to get to the roots of the issue,” Edego added. (NAN).
