Former Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Mohammed Adamu (Rtd), a Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate, has promised to prioritise security if elected governor of Nasarawa State in the 2027 general election.
Adamu made the promise on Tuesday in Doma Local Government Area (LGA), where he addressed thousands of supporters of the Alago nation who endorsed him as their preferred governorship candidate.
The former police chief said security remains the foundation for meaningful development, noting that without peace, no society can achieve economic growth, quality education, or effective healthcare delivery.
He said his experience spanning over three decades in policing and national security, including his tenure as IGP and his international assignment with INTERPOL, has equipped him with the expertise to tackle the security challenges facing Nasarawa State.
“Security is my constituency. I know what it means to secure lives and property. If given the mandate in 2027, my priority will be to ensure that every community, every farm, every school and every market in Nasarawa State is safe,” he said.
Adamu assured that his administration would strengthen community policing, enhance collaboration between conventional security agencies and local vigilante groups, and deploy technology-driven security architecture to address kidnapping, farmers-herders clashes and communal conflicts.
He also promised to invest heavily in youth employment and empowerment as a long-term strategy to curb criminality, adding that an idle youth population remains a major threat to peace.
The retired IGP thanked the Alago nation for the massive endorsement, describing it as a sacred trust and a political covenant he would not take for granted.
“I am deeply humbled by this show of love from my Alago brothers and sisters because this is a call to service. I assure you that Alago land and indeed the entire Nasarawa State will not regret this decision,” he said.
Earlier, Mr Danjuma Joseph, convener of the rally said their decision to support Adamu was based on his proven integrity, track record and deep historical affinity with the Alago people.
The convener further explained that the SDP candidate is a man of proven integrity, impeccable track record, and uncommon patriotism.
“The state will be safe and will witness total transformation if he becomes the next governor because he has done it before and will do it again as a governor.
“He represented Nasarawa State with pride and served Nigeria meritoriously to the pinnacle of his career, hence our decision to endorse him as a sole candidate for Alago people in the state,” he added.
Joseph further said that the group would begin house-to-house and community-to-community mobilisation in all the Alago communities in the state to ensure the success of the SDP candidate in the 2027 election. (NAN).
