The governorship aspiration of Dr. Jamilu Isyaku Gwamna under the All Progressives Congress (APC) received a significant boost following the defection of several high-profile stalwarts from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Gombe State.
The political heavyweights formally dumped the opposition PDP to pledge their absolute support for Dr. Gwamna’s 2027 gubernatorial bid.
Among the prominent defectors are Hajiya Hannatu Wakil, A seasoned mobiliser who served as the PDP State Women Leader for eight years and subsequently as the State Organising Secretary, Hajiya Asabe Baba Nahaya, a former Commissioner in the state ,Hon. Sarki Alban, a former Special Adviser, Hon. Yila Y. Mustafa, a two-time PDP candidate for the Balanga/Billiri Federal Constituency seat during the 2011 and 2015 general elections.
Welcoming the new members into his political camp, Dr. Gwamna described the development as a major consolidation for the ruling APC.
He noted that the defection reflects growing public confidence in his vision and aspiration to lead Gombe State come 2027.
“The continuous influx of PDP chieftains into our camp is gradually reshaping the political landscape of Gombe State and strengthening the APC’s grassroots structure,” Gwamna stated.
This mass defection comes on the heels of another high-profile exit from the opposition party, following the recent departure of the former PDP National Treasurer, Hon. Ahmed Yayari, who also joined the APC.
Political analysts suggest that these back-to-back exits may significantly alter the balance of power ahead of the 2027 general elections.
