Plateau: Governor Lalong Charges Councillors on Quality Legislation

Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State has tasked Local Government Lawmakers to work in synergy with the Executive arm to better their various Local Government Areas.

The Governor was speaking at the close of a 3day capacity building workshop for the second batch of Councillors of the state, organized by the Plateau State House of Assembly in collaboration with the state Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, sponsored by Association of Local Government of Nigeria, ALGON. It was held at the ITF Centre of Excellence, Bukuru, in Jos South local government area of Plateau State.

Represented by the Secretary to the Government of the State, Prof. Danladi Atu, the governor while appreciating the organizers and facilitators, enjoined the Councillors to put into use what they learnt and to always consult with the state Legislators in critical decision.

Speaking to journalists during the workshop, Leader of Jos East local government Legislative Arm, Engr. Samuel Izang described the workshop as an eye opener, with quality of resource persons and topics that have shaped their understanding and capacity of representation and lawmaking.

He said among others, he learnt that, “As lawmakers we need to know what we are doing, because you cannot make laws that will consume the people, but rather laws that will add value to the people because the essence of law is to provide solutions that will better the lives of the people” he said.

This and other presentations he believes will improve their performances.

Also speaking, the leader of Langtang North Legislative Arm, Mr. Nanzing Maina collaborated the above position, saying the training have exposed them to some of the things they were doing ignorantly and promised to implement same when they get back home.

“I promise that in Langtang North Legislative Arm, you are going to see some changes,  because of this training” he said.

They appreciated the organizers for the opportunity to be trained and appealed that it should be made an annual refreshing training.

Earlier, Member representing Langtang North Central in the Plateau State House of Assembly, Nanbol Listick who coordinated the training, said there will be follow up by the state Assembly to monitor and ascertain the impact of the training on their performances  within the next 3 months.
