Gov Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has sworn in 8 new commissioners, Special advisers, and Permanent secretaries as part of efforts to rejig the machinery of Government for effective performance and service delivery.
The swearing-in was held on Wednesday at the Aliyu Akwe – Doma Hall, in Lafia.
The governor urged the newly sworn-in appointees to prioritise teamwork, accountability and service to the people of the state.
He reminded appointees that “public office is public trust” and charged them to provide purposeful leadership, uphold professionalism, and ensure efficient implementation of government policies.
“It is imperative to remind us that commissioners are the principal political administrative heads of their respective ministries. By virtue of your offices, you are expected to provide purposeful leadership, strategic direction, and effective supervision.
“You are expected to maintain effective coordination with permanent secretaries, heads of agencies, and other stakeholders to ensure that government policies are implemented efficiently and effectively.
“And also ensure that the people derive tangible benefits from our policies and programmes,” the governor charged.
Earlier, the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Labaran Magaji, commended the State House of Assembly for the speedy screening of commissioner nominees.
“Your Excellency, you may wish to recall that, further to the relief of the appointment of some honourable commissioners in an attempt to rejig the machinery of government for enhanced productivity.
“You had submitted a list of some nominees to the Nasarawa State House of Assembly for screening and subsequent confirmation as honourable commissioners.
He applauded the Governor’s commitment to putting Nasarawa on the pedestal that would engender sustainable development.
The newly sworn-in commissioners are Muhammad Nagogo, Tertiary and Technical Education; Adamu Rebecca Kpadji, Women Affairs, Social Development and Humanitarian Affairs; Jibril Abdullahi, Youth and Sports Development; Baba Shehu, Humanitarian Affairs, NGOs and Disaster Management.
Others are Mr Mohammed Iyimoga Oyigye, Agriculture and Food Security; Dr Nawani Aboki, Information, Culture and Tourism,
Ahmed Yakubu Muhammad, Budget and Economic Planning,
Dr Ashefu Daniel Paul, Lands, Survey and Physical Planning.
Speaking on behalf of the new appointees, the Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Dr Nawani Aboki, thanked the Governor for the opportunity to serve.
“We will work very hard to consolidate the gains of this administration and uplift the standard of service in Nasarawa State,” he said. (NAN)
