The planned signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Plateau State Government and JAIZ Bank for the rebuilding of the burnt Jos main market has been rejected by constituents of Langtang North North State Constituency.
The member representing the Constituency at the Plateau State House of Assembly, Nanbol Listick had earlier engaged the constituents over the Jos main market rebuilding which is generating controversy among citizens of the state.
Speaking on outcome of the engagement, the Lawmaker said his constituents did not support the idea of signing the MoU for rebuilding of the market as they observed the 40 years lease as too much.
He said instead, they suggested building of big Malls in Southern and Central senatorial zones of the state to generate more revenue for the state.
“My constituents want development. They suggested that big malls should be constructed in Central and Southern Plateau. They are against the timing that Government wants to carry out this gigantic project.
“They observed the number of years to be too much” he said.
It would be recalled that following the controversy surrounding the signing of the MoU for the rebuilding of the market, the Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong had requested members of the Plateau State House of Assembly to engage their constituents for better explanation on the gains of the deal to the state and it citizens which the members are doing.
The rebuilding of the over 20 years burnt Jos main market, popularly known as “Terminus Market” for 10 billion naira with 100% funding by JAIZ bank for 40 years lease of 60% and 40% sharing formula in favour of the JAIZ bank is generating controversy among citizens of the state, leading to Law suit against the Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong by the member representing Jos North and Jos South federal Constituency at the National Assembly, Dachung Musa Bagos.
Meanwhile, the court had yesterday Monday, adjourned to August 30, 2022, for hearing into the case filed by the National Assembly Member, Dachung Musa Bagos against the Governor.
