NGOs Decry Plight of IDPs in Nigeria

 Stakeholders working for peace and reconciliation in Nigeria have regretted the continued presence and neglect of Internally Displaced Person’s wallowing in the IDP camps across the country.

This according to the stakeholders is the reason for the nation’s retrogressive tendencies instead of progressing.

Speaking in Jos, Plateau State at an open day of a Nongovernmental Organization, known as Niche Relief Legacy Foundation, aimed at raising funds for the reposition of the baby NGO, Amb. Justina Ngwobia who is the Executive Director of Justice, Peace and Reconciliation Movement, regretted that instead of talking about science, technology and other transformational agenda that will develop the country, the nation is battling on how to care for IDPs.

Represented by the Chairman, Plateau Peace Practitioners Network, Mr. Pwakim Jacob, the guest speaker, acknowledged the work of the NGO in bringing sucur to the orphans, widows and less privileged in the society and called on spirited individuals to support the organization to achieve the needed desire.

She encouraged Niche Relief Legacy Foundation not to be discouraged by their humble beginning but strive hard and be sincere in their dealings to make a different from other people who are using such platforms for self enrichment instead of helping humanity.

In their separate remarks the Minister of Women Affairs, Dame Pauline Tallen who was represented at the occasion by  Mrs. Martina Kure and the Executive Secretary, Nigerian Christians Pilgrims Commission, Rev. Yakubu Pam, represented by Mr. Chollom Gyang salute the Niche Relief Legacy Foundation for touching lives in their little way and planning to expand their reach.

Earlier, the Executive Director of Niche Relief Legacy Foundation, Eld. Yohanna Duwara went down memory lane to explained how the organization came about in late 2020 and their desire to reach out to Internally Displaced Person’s in Plateau and Borno states in their short time plan while other states in a long time plan.

He said the expected 5 millions from the fundraising is aimed at resettling at least 15 displaced families with 3 millions while the remaining 2 millions are for logistics to bring back some few displaced family members from Cameroun and other places and to also organized at least two peace building and adult-trauma healing workshops to heal the traumatized victims in order to learn how to forgive the perpetrators.

He said in the last one and half year, the organization has supported widows with fifty thousand naira and had organized health outreach to three Communities in Jos North and Jos South local government areas of Plateau State after successful registration with Corporate Affairs Commission and registration of website.
