The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) has formally positioned itself as a major alternative for the 2027 general elections following its National Elective Convention held in Bauchi on Thursday.
During the event, Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, was officially inaugurated as the APM National Leader, subsequently declaring his full support for Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, as the party’s 2027 presidential candidate.
Addressing delegates and party supporters, Makinde emphasized that Nigeria urgently requires a robust and credible opposition capable of offering citizens a practical alternative to the current political landscape.
He argued that the upcoming 2027 elections must move away from empty slogans and unfulfilled political promises.
Instead, he stated that the contest should be strictly evaluated on measurable outcomes, job creation, agricultural development, and economic opportunities for the youth.
Makinde also strongly advocated for structural reforms, calling for a greater devolution of powers and resources from the federal government to the state and local levels to bring governance closer to the people.
He urged a shift toward an issue-based political culture rooted in accountability, warning that political rivalries must not be treated as personal enmities.
In his acceptance speech, Governor Bala Mohammed thanked the party hierarchy for his appointment and pledged to transform the APM into a formidable national platform anchored on competence, unity, and economic recovery.
Mohammed described the party’s presidential ticket—pairing Governor Makinde with vice-presidential candidate and former Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Alhaji Lawal Daura as a strategic combination of experience and expertise tailored to tackle Nigeria’s pressing security and economic challenges.
He assured citizens that an APM-led administration would prioritize eradication of hunger, combatting insecurity, and fostering cross-regional unity.
Reiterating the party’s growth strategy, the newly elected APM National Chairman, Alhaji Yusuf Mamman Dantalle, announced aggressive plans to expand the party’s grassroots structures nationwide.
Dantalle maintained that the APM’s objective for 2027 extends beyond mere participation, aiming instead to serve as a viable governing platform ready to tackle Nigeria’s deep-seated governance issues.
The convention concluded with party leaders identifying restructuring, inclusive governance, security, and economic revival as the core pillars of the APM’s national agenda ahead of the 2027 polls.
