More than 2,800 peasant farmers in Nasarawa State have benefited from an agricultural intervention programme initiated by former Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu.
The intervention, which was distributed in Karu Local Government Area, targeted farmers selected from the 59 wards across the Nasarawa West Senatorial Zone, with the aim of boosting crop production and improving the livelihoods of rural households.
Speaking during the distribution, Mr. Mohammed Adamu said the prevailing economic hardship confronting communities across the state required deliberate and practical interventions, particularly programmes designed to empower rural farmers and strengthen household incomes.
He said he was inspired by the economic reforms of the Federal Government under President Bola Tinubu, urging leaders at the sub-national level to focus on harnessing the potential of grassroots communities for the immediate benefit of the people.
The agricultural empowerment items distributed to the beneficiaries included fertilisers, modern farm implements such as hand planters, and pesticides.
Speaking on behalf of the farmers, Mallam Isah Buba, who represented the Nasarawa State Chairman of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Mr. Isaac Kugbu, described the intervention as unique and unprecedented.
He said the initiative would encourage more young people to embrace agriculture as a means of livelihood while contributing to increased food production in the state.
Mallam Buba expressed appreciation to the former Inspector-General of Police for his consistent interventions and support towards alleviating the challenges confronting farmers in Nasarawa State. (Radio Nigeria)
