The Nasarawa State Government has sought the collaboration of International partners to strengthen healthcare services at the state’s secondary healthcare facilities.
Dr Egba Edego, Chief Medical Director (CMD) of Nasarawa State Hospital Management Board (HMB), made the call at a one-day partners’ coordination meeting on Wednesday in Lafia.
The CMD noted that development partners already working in secondary healthcare facilities in the state should always carry the board along in their interventions for proper coordination and effectiveness in addressing the priority challenges of the facilities.
Edego acknowledged the contributions of non-governmental organisations and other development partners towards improving healthcare delivery in the state and described their support as unprecedented.
He, however, appealed for more interventions, particularly in the areas of personnel capacity development, infrastructure and medical equipment to complement the effort and huge investment of the state government.
“If interventions are channelled towards the above-mentioned areas, it will strengthen the capacity of secondary healthcare facilities to provide more quality healthcare services to the people of the state and beyond.
“Greater coordination between development partners and us would help ensure that interventions are properly aligned with the needs and priorities in the healthcare sector” he added.
Earlier, Mrs Maryam Sulieman, Director of Planning, Research and Statistics at the board, explained that the meeting was organised to strengthen coordination and collaboration with partners.
“It was also aimed at identifying areas requiring technical, financial and material support to align with the partners’ interventions and the board’s priorities for the overall benefit of the health sector in the state,” she added.
Speaking on behalf of the partners. Mr Felix Mary-Okpechi from Ipas Nigeria Health Foundation (Ipas NHF) said that the organisation is a global non-profit organisation that focuses on reproductive health.
Mary-Okpechi appreciated the board and promised to strengthen their working relationship with the board to ensure that members of the public enjoy improved healthcare outcomes in all secondary healthcare facilities in the state. (NAN).
