The Nasarawa State Government has awarded contracts for the supply and installation of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) equipment and solar electricity systems in public secondary schools across the state under the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) Project.
Speaking at the opening of bids for the contracts in Lafia, the Commissioner for Education, Dr. John Mamman, described the intervention as another milestone in the state government’s efforts to entrench sustainable and quality education in Nasarawa State.
Dr. Mamman reiterated the government’s commitment to prioritising capacity development, infrastructure upgrades and the provision of instructional materials to schools to enhance learning outcomes in line with global standards.
He noted that since the implementation of the AGILE Project in the state, Governor Abdullahi Sule had remained consistent in providing the necessary support to ensure the smooth implementation of the programme.
The Commissioner assured that transparency, accountability and inclusivity would remain the hallmarks of the project’s implementation, particularly in the award of contracts, which he said would be conducted without favouritism or personal interests.
The AGILE Project Coordinator, Hajiya Aisha Isoga, explained that the supply and installation of ICT equipment and solar electricity systems in public schools were part of the World Bank’s requirements for the implementation of the programme.
She stated that the intervention would cover 55 public secondary schools across the state, including the 30 schools currently under construction.
Hajiya Isoga also disclosed that more than 200 teachers, including technical staff, had been trained to ensure the effective use of the equipment and improve the teaching and learning process.
The bidding exercise was conducted in the presence of 93 shortlisted contractors and representatives of the Nasarawa State Bureau for Public Procurement. (Radio Nigeria)
