APC Committee Announces Commencement of Plateau Assembly Primaries, Governorship Thursday

The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship and House of Assembly Primary Election Committee in Plateau State, Hon. Chief Fidelis Mnyim, has announced the commencement of the party’s State House of Assembly primary elections across the state, while confirming that the governorship primary election will hold on Thursday.

Speaking during a briefing with party stakeholders, electoral officials, security agencies and journalists at the party’s State Secretariat in Jos, Mnyim said the committee had already commenced the assembly primaries in several constituencies, with results being collated and announced at designated constituencies before transmission to the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.

According to him, elections that could not be concluded in some areas would continue the following day to ensure a credible process capable of producing candidates for the 2027 general elections.

“Our assignment here this evening is very simple. The State House of Assembly elections have commenced today. In some areas, elections have been concluded and results are being collected and announced at various state constituencies before transmission to the APC national secretariat,” he said.

Mnyim disclosed that the APC would conduct its governorship primary through the direct primary system, noting that all wards across Plateau State would participate simultaneously beginning from 8 a.m.

“The governorship primary election in Plateau State is tomorrow. We are here with all the materials for the election and distribution will commence immediately after this briefing to ensure voting starts by 8 a.m. in all council wards,” he stated.

He explained that the membership register earlier used during the National Assembly primaries would also be used for the governorship exercise, adding that all sensitive election materials had been sealed and made available for inspection.

Displaying some of the materials before journalists, Mnyim said the governorship declaration forms, ward result sheets and local government collation forms were intact and ready for deployment.

Responding to questions from journalists on where results would be announced, the committee chairman clarified that by the provisions of the Electoral Act, APC Constitution and guidelines governing the primaries, House of Assembly results would be declared at the constituency level.

He further explained that governorship results would be collated from the wards to local government areas before being transmitted to the state collation centre for final announcement.

“The elections commence at the wards. At the conclusion of voting, results are announced there and transmitted to the local governments for collation. For the governorship primary, the results will eventually be brought here for final announcement,” he explained.

On the issue of the number of registered APC members eligible to participate in the exercise, Mnyim declined to provide figures immediately, insisting that the details would emerge officially during the declaration of results.

He maintained that all wards in Plateau State were participating in the exercise, assuring party members and stakeholders of a transparent and credible process.
