The Nasarawa State chapter of the Coalition of Unions Against Corruption has launched a state-wide campaign to rid the state of corruption.
Speaking at the inauguration of the campaign on Friday in Lafia, Haj. Maryam Ibrahim, Chairperson of the Coalition said the essence was to promote transparency, accountability, and good governance in the state.
She said that the theme of the campaign is, ‘Stop the rot, say no to corruption.’
“This initiative aims to support and amplify the fight against corruption across the 13 local government areas of Nasarawa State.
“Corruption remains one of the most significant challenges hindering our development, and it is our collective responsibility to address this menace,” she added.
The leader of the group in the state said the coalition would engage in creating awareness to educate the public on the danger of corruption citing relevant cases.
“We will hold workshops, seminars, and town hall meetings where resource persons will make presentations,” she added.
Maryam Ibrahim also said that the organisation would provide platforms for citizens to share concerns, and experiences as well as make contributions to the fight against corruption.
The leader of the group noted that the fight against corruption cannot be won by the government institutions alone, but called on all stakeholders to join the crusade.
She said that the group appreciates the effort the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is making in fighting corruption and expressed willingness to partner with the agency.
The leader also appealed to government officials, Civil Society Organisations, and the media to support them to eliminate corruption in the state. (NAN).
