Participants in a one day capacity building training on Community Led Monitoring Guide for AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria interventions have stressed the need for the federal government to prioritize funding for programmes on ending HIV Aids and Tuberculosis epidemics in the country.
Declaring the workshop open in Lafia the Nasarawa State capital, National Coordinator of Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS in Nigeria Mr. Abdulkadir Ibrahim said Nigeria would be free of HIV, Tuberculosis and Malaria if government at all levels put up sustainable approach to end the menace.
Mr Abdulkadir Ibrahim who was represented by the National Secretary, Mr. Clifford Emmanuel stressed the need for government at all levels to step up funding to respond to health challenges especially in the rural areas.
One of the facilitators at the training and Programme Manager, Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS in Nigeria, Mr. Ismaeel Danesi explained that the workshop was to equip the Community Based Organizations with new ways of accessing funds from the global funds through the Community Led Monitoring approach and how to ensure people living with HIV, Tuberculosis and Malaria have access to quality and affordable health care services in the communities.
The participants in the training which was organized by Network of People Living with HIV AIDS in Nigeria comprised of representatives of Community Based Organizations that are involved in the implementation of federal government Global Fund Resilient and Sustainable System for Health and COVID-19 Project.
Some of the participants Miss Ene Ogbiloja and Mr Aboki Jonah said given the rising number of people vulnerable to health issues in rural communities, there was need for government to give much attention to primary health centres in the country.
Community Led Monitoring, is a new initiative aimed at responding to the prevalence of HIV and AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria by engaging health care providers and the local communities to ensure quality health care service delivery and accountability.
The training featured paper presentations on the workability of adopting Community Led Monitoring mechanism in applying for funds from the Global Fund.
