Youths in Nasarawa State have begun engaging political leaders at all levels to develop actionable strategies for full inclusion in governance and decision-making, ahead of the 2027 General Election.

This resolve was demonstrated at a one-day summit held in Akwanga Local Government Area, themed “Changing the Mindset: Taking Nasarawa Youths as Drivers of the Future.” Youth groups at the event called on the political class to take genuine steps toward empowering young people to foster inclusivity, peace, and national development.

The summit brought together representatives from the National Association of Nasarawa State Students, the Forum of Nasarawa Ethnic Nationalities, and the Youth Parliament, who jointly presented an action plan aimed at ensuring meaningful youth participation in governance.

Convener of the summit, retired Major General Nuhu Angbazo, in his remarks, emphasized the need to shift young people’s mindset toward demanding accountability from elected leaders. He warned that continued political division among youths, often orchestrated by political actors, could threaten national unity and security.

Chairperson of the organizing committee, Miss Nina Abims, advocated for the establishment of credible platforms that will secure the future of youths through Productivity, Accountability, Innovation, and Volunteerism.

Youth leaders including Abimiku Ovey, Silas Dauda, and Lois Istifanus identified undue political interference and marginalization as key drivers of youth unrest and agitation.

At the end of the summit, a communiqué was issued reaffirming the commitment of Nasarawa youths to championing a prosperous and inclusive society, with young people positioned as major stakeholders in governance. (Radio Nigeria)
