The Tiv Youth Organisation (TYO) in Nasarawa State has raised alarm over the attacks and killings of their people in some communities of the state.
Isaiah Audu, President of the organisation raised the alarm at a briefing with journalists on Monday in Lafia.
“We gather today with heavy hearts to condemn the recent spate of violent attacks on innocent farmers in Nasarawa State.
“These senseless and brutal killings have left families traumatized, communities shattered and a palpable sense of fear gripping our rural populace,” he added.
The Youth President explained that on Thursday, June 13, and Sunday, June 16, Dooga Ayande of Dooka ward in Doma Local Government Area (LGA), Antsa of Kwara ward in Keana LGA, and Tse Yange of Tudun Adabu ward in Obi LGA were attacked.
He added that four farmers were killed in those attacks apart from other isolated attacks.
He said that over 2000 farmers were displaced from those communities and are taking refuge at various camps in the state.
He, however, acknowledged and appreciated the efforts of Gov. Abdullahi Sule through the Nasarawa State Emergency Management Agency for supplying relief materials to the displaced persons recently.
Audu appealed to the state government to conduct a thorough investigation into these attacks to identify and bring the perpetrators to justice.
He also appealed to the government to deploy more security personnel to the affected communities to enable the farmers to return to their villages and continue with farming activities.
He therefore extended the deepest condolences of the association to the families of the victims and prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured.
The President called on the Tiv people in the state to continue to be law-abiding and embrace other people irrespective of their tribes and religion for the overall development of the state and the country. (NAN) .
