The Secretary to the Nasarawa State Government, Dr Labaran Magaji, has called for a stronger collaboration amongst security agencies to subdue security threats perpetuated by political thuggery in the state.
Magaji, who is also the Acting Commissioner for Security and Sundry Matters, made this call in Lafia during a meeting with heads of security and intelligence agencies in the state.
Magaji noted that the engagement aimed to strengthen cooperation in developing effective strategies to address security challenges within the state.
He expressed concerns about the growing political thuggery ahead of the 2027 general elections, noting that it requires concerted efforts of security agencies to subvert their activities to enhance the security of lives and property of the citizenry.
According to him, it became necessary for all relevant agencies to collaborate to prevent activities that could threaten peace, public order and the reputation of Nasarawa State.
The SSG advocated for sustained information sharing, intelligence coordination and prompt responses amongst security agencies, noting that it was essential to effectively deal with emerging security concerns.
Responding, the Nasarawa State Commissioner of Police, CP Shettima Jauro, expressed the determination of security agencies to support the government of Nasarawa State and restated their commitment to preventing violence.
The Commissioner assured that the security agencies would continue to work collectively with the government to address emerging security concerns, maintain peace, and strengthen public safety.
The meeting had in attendance the senior officials from the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services, the military, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.
Others are the Federal Road Safety Corps, the Nigeria Immigration Service, the Fire and Rescue Service of Nasarawa State, the Nigeria Correctional Service, and Security and Intelligence Organisations operating in the state. (NAN)
