
Motorists plying routes across plateau and the Country have been urged to adhere strictly to the Road Safety measures during the 2023 EMBER Months.
Transition Implementation Committee Chairman of Jos East Local Government Council, Hon. Markus Useini Nyam made the call during an awareness campaign organized by the Federal Road Safety Corps, RS4.15, Jos bye pass Unit, held at Bauchi Road Motor Park in Plateau State.
Information Officer of Jos East LGC, Magit Yusufu Haruna noted that the TIC Chairman showered accolades on the disposition of Federal Road Safety Corps, National Union of Road Transport Workers, Red Cross Society, Road Marshal, Vehicle Inspection Officers and other Security Operatives in portraying their professionalism over time, urged them to sustain the good work.
He pointed out that as a responsible Government, his doors are widely opened for constructive criticisms and desirous to partner with any organization that would promote good initiative in line with the “TIME IS NOW” philosophy on the Plateau
Some of the road safety measures highlighted were “Speed drills, but kills, drive responsibly and avoid overloading” as expected of road users and consequences of violating same.
The Unit Commander, FRSC R4.15 Jos bye pass, Assistant Corps Commander, Jibrin Okolofo, and Sector Commander, RS4.1 Jos, CC Alphonsus Godwin, both opined that the Ember months preceding the New year are considered to be season of high vehicular traffic on Nigerian roads which is mares with road traffic crashes, due to human, mechanical and environmental factors.
According to them, often time living the victims maimed, injured, incapacitated and loss of properties among others hence the sole aim of the sensitization campaign on the motorists for proper use of the roads.

They identified some of the precautionary measures drivers especially, commercial transporters must avoid to ensure road accidents are minimize while on transit, to include but not limited to intake of drugs before embarking on journey, over loading, interaction with passengers, phone calls while driving, over speeding, indiscriminate parking, wrongful overtaken.
Others are driving with worn out tires and lack of fastening seat belts. thereby endangering themselves, passengers, other road users and public facilities, while wishing a crash – free 2023 Yuletide to have a safe drive into the year 2024.
Agwom Izere Jos North, His Royal Highness, Emmanuel Ajik, who was represented by the District head of Fudawa Jos North, Adagwom Itse Haruna, appreciated the Federal Road Safety Corps of the Command for the awareness campaign, called on all road users to adhere strictly to the safety measures and pledged to support the Unit command to succeed in it’s quest for a safety society.

In a vote of thanks, Plateau State Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Jos, Usha’u Mohammed who was represented by the State Financial Secretary, Awal Garba, appreciated the cordial working relationship between his Organization and the Federal Road Safety Corps of the Jos bye pass Unit command and prayed for a hitch free Ember months.
Highlights of the event were play let and first aide tips by Red Cross Society of Nigeria, kick off of the ember months safety campaign by the Special guests, TIC Chairman of Jos East, Markus Useini and his counterpart of Jos North, Istifanus John as represented by Mubarak Isa.
