The Emir of Karshi, Professor Sani Bako Mohammed 111 has turbaned eminent personalities with traditional titles to serve as members of the Karshi Emirate Council.
The turbaning ceremony took place on Saturday at the palace of the revered first-class traditional ruler. Prominent among those honoured were the wife of Senator Ahmed Wadada Aliyu, Hajiya Maryam Wadada, the Chairman of Karu Local Government Council, Barrister Abubakar Aliyu Madaki, and ASP Musa Haruna.
They were conferred with the titles of Sarauniyan Karshi and Magajin Rafin Karshi respectively. Others turbaned included Sarkin Ruwa, Sarkin Padan Karshi, and Ciroman Karshi, among others.
Nasarawa State Governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, who was represented by the State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Isaac Danladi, charged the newly turbaned title holders to redouble their efforts in service to their communities.
He further called on them to promote peace and unity among citizens of Karu, Karshi and Nasarawa State at large.
“Let me plead with you all to continue to support our programmes as well as be patient, as my administration is working hard to provide the needed dividends of democracy to citizens of Nasarawa State,” he said.
Addressing the gathering, the Emir of Karshi, Prof. Sani Muhammadu Bako III, said he decided to elevate the title to be conferred on Hajiya Maryam Wadada Aliyu from Kwallen Karshi to Sarauniyan Karshi, which signifies “Queen of Karshi”.
According to the monarch, “By virtue of your position as the wife of the incoming governor, by the grace of God, I have today decided to change the earlier title you were supposed to be turbaned with. This is because I have noticed that your exceptional performance among others is commendable.
“I have equally discovered that among women, you are a woman with dignity, integrity and one who possesses the qualities to be crowned the Queen (Sarauniyan) of Karshi.”
He further stated that as Sarauniyan Karshi, Hajiya Maryam Wadada surpasses all other women.
Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman of Karu LGA, Barrister Abubakar Aliyu Madaki, who was turbaned as Magajin Rafin Karshi, expressed delight and satisfaction, while commending the Emir for the prestigious titles conferred on them.
