PLHA: Mangu North East YPP Candidate  Prioritizes IDPs’ Resettlement, Education, Youth Empowerment

The Young Progressives Party (YPP) candidate for Mangu North East Constituency in the 2027 Plateau State House of Assembly election, Hon. Alexander Enoch, has pledged to prioritize the resettlement of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) if elected into office.

Speaking with journalists in Jos on Monday, Enoch said his foremost legislative agenda would be to work closely with the executive arm of government to facilitate the speedy return of displaced persons to their ancestral communities.

According to him, the prolonged displacement of many residents following attacks in parts of Mangu Local Government Area has continued to affect livelihoods, particularly farming activities, and requires urgent government intervention.

The lawmaker hopeful stated that he would sponsor bills and move motions aimed at drawing government attention to the plight of displaced persons and the need for their resettlement.

“I was privileged to serve on the damage assessment committee for the 2023/2024 attacks constituted by Governor Caleb Mutfwang. I witnessed firsthand the level of destruction and displacement suffered by our people.

“Many have lost their homes and can no longer engage in farming activities. We will pursue legislative measures that will encourage government to return these people to their ancestral lands,” he said.

Enoch also expressed his determination to redefine legislative representation in Mangu North East through effective lawmaking, robust oversight functions, and advocacy for projects that would directly impact the lives of constituents.

He disclosed that he resigned from his position as Sports Ministry Coordinator of the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) after 13 years of service to pursue a political career, which he described as an extension of his mission to serve God and humanity.

The YPP candidate noted that his leadership experience in the church has equipped him with the necessary skills to provide purposeful representation for the people.

According to him, residents of Mangu North East deserve more than the traditional political gestures often witnessed during election periods.

“What has become common in our constituency is the refurbishment or drilling of boreholes and the distribution of food items during festive periods such as Christmas and Sallah. While these are commendable, our people deserve more sustainable and impactful development initiatives,” he stated.

Enoch further pledged to prioritize the education sector by facilitating the construction of classroom blocks, supporting scholarship programmes, and lobbying for employment opportunities for young people in the constituency.

He also promised to champion youth and women empowerment programmes, while providing agricultural inputs and support to farmers to boost food production and economic growth.

The YPP flagbearer reaffirmed his commitment to delivering quality representation and ensuring that the needs of the people remain at the centre of his legislative agenda if elected in 2027.
