‘We Have Lost a Mentor’ – Danjuma Azi Mourns Prof. Emmanuel Mangset

The immediate past Liaison Officer to Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang for Jos North West Constituency, Hon. Danjuma Azi, has described the death of Professor Emmanuel Mangset as a monumental loss to the community, describing the late academic as a mentor whose impact touched many lives.

Azi made the remarks on Monday during a condolence visit to the family of the late Professor of Physics at their residence in Sabon Gari, Tudun Wada, Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The former lawmaker said he received the news of Professor Mangset’s passing with deep shock and sadness, recalling that they had exchanged text messages just two days before his death and had planned to meet soon.

According to him, the late university don’s death is not only a loss to his immediate family but also to the entire Jos North West Constituency and Plateau State at large.

“His death is a loss not only to his family but to our community and the entire Jos North West Constituency. We are going to miss his immense contributions to the growth and development of our ward and constituency,” Azi said.

He noted that Professor Mangset played a significant role in mentoring young people and contributing to community development through his wealth of knowledge and commitment to service.

Azi recalled that the late professor was a regular speaker at youth programmes in Tudun Wada and had served as a guest speaker during a summer lesson programme he organised for primary and secondary school students while serving as the member representing Jos North West Constituency in the Plateau State House of Assembly in 2023.

The APC chieftain said the deceased’s contributions to education and youth development would remain unforgettable, adding that his legacy would continue to inspire future generations.

He assured the bereaved family that they would not be abandoned during the difficult period, pledging his continued support and solidarity.

“Professor Mangset’s legacy cannot be erased in a hurry, especially among the youths of Tudun Wada and the academic community. We will continue to stand by his family and honour his memory,” he added.

Responding on behalf of the family, the wife of the deceased, Mrs. Justina Mangset, expressed gratitude to Hon. Azi for the visit and words of encouragement.

She said her late husband often spoke highly of Azi and appreciated his show of compassion during the family’s moment of grief.

Mrs. Mangset noted that the family had been comforted by the outpouring of support from friends, associates and community members since the professor’s passing.

She prayed for God’s guidance and favour upon Azi in his political aspirations and encouraged him to continue serving the people and impacting lives positively.

Professor Emmanuel Mangset, a respected academic, community leader and mentor, passed away on Saturday, leaving behind a legacy of scholarship, service and commitment to youth development.

Until his death in the early hours of Saturday, May 30, 2026, Professor Mangset was the Head of the Department of Physics in the Faculty of Natural Sciences at the University of Jos.

Hon. Danjuma Azi, who previously represented Jos North West Constituency before being removed alongside other PDP lawmakers following the 2023 Appeal Court ruling on the party’s leadership crisis, later served as Liaison Officer to Governor Caleb Mutfwang.

He is currently seeking a return to the Plateau State House of Assembly under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
