Ahead of the July 20 trenial delegates Conference of the Nasarawa State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Mr Sunday John, a Chairmanship aspirant has promised to sustain and build on all legacy projects and policies of the outgoing administration if elected.
John who is the current Secretary of the union, stated this on Monday when he led members of his campaigning council for campaign at the Nigerian Television Authority, (NTA), Lafia Chapel:.
He said his administration would prioritize completion of all ongoing projects and initiate new ones to strengthen the union.
Key among his plans are installation of solar power and CCTV cameras at the Press Centre for security and establishment of a viewing centre and NUJ Plaza to generate revenue for members’ welfare.
“Our goal is continuity to sustain the current gains, improve on it and transform the Press Centre towards ensuring that it becomes the centre of activities given its proximity with the Federal University of Lafia (Fulafia).
“The Alkali-led executive restored professionalism, public image and welfare in the last six years. I will not abandon that foundation.
“I have been the Secretary for two term and every uncompleted project will be finished, and more will be added for the growth of NUJ in Nasarawa State,” he added.

The aspirant also promised to provide free admission forms to members of the union from the eight chapels interested in obtaining professional certificate at the International Institute of Journalism (IIJ).
He thanked the NTA Chapel for its support and assured the chairman that he would not disappoint if given the mandate.
Responding, Chairman of NUJ Lafia Chapel, Joshua Kigbu, pledged the chapel’s full backing to ensure John’s victory at the polls.
Also speaking, Chairman of the Sunday John Campaign Team, Mr. Isaac Okpoju, said the visit was to formally inform members that the incumbent council Secretary was contesting for chairman in the July 20, 2026 election.
Okpoju noted that continuity was critical to consolidate gains recorded under Salihu Muhammad Alkali’s leadership.
He added that history would be made if John, from the Correspondents Chapel, wins, as no member of the chapel has led the council in its over 30-year existence.
