Governor of Nasarawa State, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, has responded to those calling for his administration to be probed.
He frowned at the unfounded allegations and urged the appropriate authorities to begin the investigation immediately and not delay it.
Governor Sule made the remark on Tuesday during an endorsement meeting with various trade unions in the state, held at the Government House parade ground, Lafia.
According to him: “I have refrained from reacting to baseless and unfounded allegations circulating on social media. If I focused on social media posts, I wouldn’t be doing what I have done. And regarding the monies that accrue to the state, anyone who thinks they know how it is being appropriated should embark on the investigation right away. Failure to do so amounts to lies.
“Because the immunity governors enjoy while in office covers prosecution, not investigation, I know a number of governors who are currently under investigation. So I am urging those who have facts to call for my investigation now and stop saying ‘after a certain time’ or ‘later’. Otherwise, the matter is baseless,” Gov. Sule responded.
Governor Sule’s reaction was in response to a statement credited to the former Accountant General of the state and gubernatorial aspirant under the ruling All Progressives Congress, who alleged that Nasarawa State receives over ₦18 billion monthly in allocation, and urged the general public to seek clarification from the government of the day on how the monies are being used.
The governor thanked the leaders of NURTW, NARTO, motorcycle riders, traders, and marketers associations for throwing their weight behind government policies and programmes. He added that their support confirms that Muje Maha is not just a slogan but an indicator that, Insha Allah, Senator Ahmed Wadada is the next governor come 2027.
Also speaking, the APC State Chairman, Dr. Aliyu Bello, appreciated the union leaders for taking the bold step of identifying with the government and the governor’s directive.
Earlier, the chairmen of the National Union of Road Transport Workers and the Traders and Marketers Association, Nasarawa State branch, Alhaji Mohammed Markwarya and Aliyu Musa, confirmed that their members, drawn from across the state and numbering 15 unions, had unanimously agreed to endorse Governor Abdullahi Sule’s preferred successor as the incoming governor of the state.
