The Nasarawa State Government has reiterated its commitment to sustaining collaboration and logistics support to security agencies in the state.
Dr Labaran Magaji, Secretary to the Nasarawa State Government, stated this in Lafia during a study tour of participants of Senior Course 48 of the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji, to Nasarawa State.
Magaji, while making a presentation on the profile of Nasarawa state, said that the administration of Gov. Abdullahi Sule had recorded significant achievements in the area of security and other facets of human development.
The SSG said the peaceful nature of Nasarawa state was a result of the tremendous support and collaboration between the federal and state governments.
He commended the Federal Government for the establishment of various security outfits in the state to tackle crime and criminality.
“The establishment of the Military Super Camps at Kenyehu and Udege in Toto and Nasarawa Local Government Areas, 4 Military Special Forces in Doma Local Government Area.
“Police Mobile Training College at Ende-Hills, Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area, the Air Force Special Forces Base, these efforts have greatly enhanced the peaceful and harmonious co-existence.
“And also reduced the rate of kidnapping and banditry in Nasarawa state,” Magaji stated.
Magaji noted that the Government, under the leadership of Gov Sule, has sustained the provision of logistics support to security agencies, such as Hilux trucks, armour vehicles, and motorcycles, to support their operations.
“We are also utilising the non-conventional security outfits, such as the Vigilabtees, NAYES and sometimes, Hunter to gather intelligence and support conventional security agencies in carrying out their duties,’ he said.
He highlighted the achievements of the administration of Gov Sule in key sectors, including agriculture, health, education, mining, industrialisation, human capital and infrastructural development.
On infrastructural development, Magaji said the administration had constructed 639 kilometres of road network across the state.
He added that it has also constructed a flyover and an underpass in Lafia, an Akwanga underpass, while the Keffi flyover and two flyovers in Karu were under construction to eliminate persistent traffic jams in the areas.
The SSG, in the course of his presentation, went down memory lane to the creation of Nasarawa state in 1996 during the regime of the Late Gen. Sani Abacha, and reeled out names of past military and democratically elected governors.
In a paper presentation, on the theme of the tour “Promoting Community Engagement to Enhance National Security and Prosperity,” Prof. Suleiman Bala-Mohammed, while highlighting contemporary issues in security, underscored community engagement.
Prof. Mohammed Said effective security governance requires a shift toward inclusive, participatory and people-oriented approaches, where people and the community are actively involved in security processes.
Speaking earlier, the team leader Brigadier Gen. Timinere Mackintosh appreciated the Nasarawa State Government for the warm reception accorded to his team, and also commended Gov. Abdullahi Sule for his developmental strides. (NAN)
