The Nasarawa State Government says it has captured no fewer than 570,000 households, representing 1.9 million poor and vulnerable persons, in its Social Register for various intervention programmes.
Muhammad Baba-Shehu, Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Non-Governmental-Organisations and Disaster Management disclosed this on Saturday in Lafia at an event to commemorate the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty.
The Commissioner explained that the register was the database the Gov. Abdullahi Sule-led administration was using for the implementation of the social investment programmes, palliatives, and other supports since inception in 2019.
Baba-Shehu further said that the government through the Nasarawa State Social Investment Agency had implemented two phases of the cash transfer programme with the third phase in the pipeline.
“3, 800 vulnerable persons across the 147 electoral wards of the 13 Local Government Areas of the state received N5, 000 each for 24 months and 6, 000 others received N10, 000 for another 24 months for the first and second phases of the programme which ended in 2025,” he said.
He further explained that under the NG-CARES programme by the same agency, 1,500 petty and small-scale traders were given grants of N50, 000 each while others 2, 000 persons were given N10, 000 each monthly for 12 months.

The commissioner further said that the administration has also distributed electric vehicles and tricycles to youths and women who are using them for commercial purposes to improve their lives and that of their families.
“We paid NECO registration for final students in public schools, subsidised fertilisers and have given scholarships to students to reduce hardship and make lives worthwhile among many other things,” Baba-Shehu added.
The commissioner further noted that the government had recently offered humanitarian support to the residents of Kowayarda community in Karshi of Karu LGA affected by communal clash.
“We have taken the assessment of the 11 communities of Ekye in Keana LGA that were submerged by flood for intervention to cushion the effects of the disaster and help them start life again,” he added.
The Commissioner therefore reassured the public that their welfare would continue to be a top priority of the administration and the government through the ministry would continue to give the vulnerable persons the attention and support they deserve.
