Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Gombe State chapter of the ruling All Provinces Congress (APC) has suffered a significant political setback as a prominent party chieftain and government aide, Hon. Adamu Abdullahi Masad, officially defected to the opposition African Democratic Congress.
The ADC governorship candidate for Gombe State, Dr Bala Bello Tinka, formally received Masad into the party’s fold on Thursday.
The high-profile defection followed the submission of Masad’s formal resignation from both his government post and the ruling party.
Masad, a highly regarded grassroots politician from the Birin Bolawa Ward in Nafada Local Government Area, brings deep administrative experience to the ADC.
Within the APC, he previously served in several key leadership roles, including first Financial Secretary of APC Gombe State, Assistant Organising Secretary, Liaison Officer for Gombe North, Party Chairman of Nafada LGA.
Until his resignation, Masad also served the Gombe State government directly as the Senior Special Assistant II on Political and Community Engagement to Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya.
While welcoming the former APC stalwart, the ADC governorship candidate expressed delight over the development, describing Masad as a distinguished political administrator.
Tinka noted that his entry into the party is a clear indicator of growing public and political confidence in the ADC’s vision ahead of the 2027 elections.
He assured the new member and his followers of equal opportunities, inclusivity, and full participation within all decision-making organs of the Gombe State ADC chapter.
According to his official resignation letter dated September 7, 2026, which was addressed to his APC Ward Chairman, Masad explained that his exit from the ruling party came after wide-ranging consultations and deep personal conviction regarding the future.
He emphasized that his political choice was guided by the advice, wishes, and best interests of his local constituents.
Despite his departure, Masad extended his appreciation to the APC leadership at the ward, local government, and state levels for the support and opportunities he enjoyed during his years of service to the party.
