A group under the aegis of Migili Academics in Nasarawa State has appealed to Governor Abdullahi Sule and the All Progressives Congress (APC) to consider the Director-General of the Nasarawa State Geographic Information System (NAGIS), Mr. Sonny Agasi, as the party’s governorship running mate in the 2027 general election.
The group said the choice of Agasi would promote equity, justice and fairness, while providing greater political inclusion for the Migili people in the state.
Chairman of Migili Academics, Dr. Usman Stephen, made the appeal during a world press conference held in Agyaragu, Obi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
Dr. Stephen said various interest groups from the Migili ethnic nationality had, since the commencement of consultations and electioneering activities ahead of the 2027 general election, intensified calls for the APC and Governor Sule to consider one of their own for the position of Deputy Governor.
He said the Migili people had contributed significantly to the political development of Nasarawa State, stressing the need for greater inclusion in the leadership of the state to give the people a stronger sense of belonging.
The chairman urged Governor Sule and the APC to prioritize competence, fairness and equity in the selection of the party’s running mate.
He also called on the governor to support the emergence of Agasi, whom he described as a competent and innovative public servant, as the APC governorship running mate in 2027.
Stephen said such a decision would, in the view of the group, promote justice and recognize innovation and contributions to public service.
Also speaking, a member of the group, Dr. Musa Oliver, described the demand for the Migili ethnic nationality to produce the APC governorship running mate as a legitimate one.
According to him, the appeal is rooted in what the group considers Governor Sule’s principles of fairness, collective participation in governance and responsive leadership.
Another member of the group, Dr. Magaji Joshua, described Mr Agasi as a grassroots mobiliser and an innovative public servant who, according to him, had distinguished himself since his emergence in the public service.
Dr. Joshua expressed optimism that Nasarawa State would benefit from Agasi’s experience and capacity if he is selected as the APC governorship running mate in the 2027 election.
The press conference was attended by hundreds of prominent Migili sons and daughters from various institutions and walks of life.
The group expressed its commitment to intensifying consultations and advocacy for the consideration of Agasi as the APC Deputy Governorship candidate as the 2027 general election draws nearer.
