The Esu Karu and President of Karu Council of Chiefs, Pharm. Luka Panya Baba, has commended Mrs. Maryam Wadada Aliyu over her N325 million women empowerment programme across Nasarawa State.

The monarch gave the commendation on Friday during a courtesy visit by Mrs. Wadada, wife of the APC governorship candidate, Senator Ahmed Wadada Aliyu, to his palace in Karu.

According to the Esu, the empowerment initiative was timely and came at a period when most families were in need of support.

He said the gesture was a replication of Senator Wadada’s humanitarian spirit, noting that Karu had benefited from the lawmaker’s interventions even before his aspiration to become governor of Nasarawa State.

“This kind of gesture demonstrates commitment, sincerity and a show of love for citizens. It is beyond political exercise, but serves as bettering the lives of the underprivileged persons in the society,” the monarch said.

In her remarks, Mrs. Maryam Wadada said she was in Karu to continue the disbursement of N50,000 each to 500 women. She explained that the programme, which commenced on Monday, targets 6,500 women across the 13 Local Government Areas of the state with a total of N325,000,000 earmarked for disbursement.

She thanked the Esu and members of his council for the warm reception accorded her and her entourage.

Earlier, the Chairman of Karu LGA, Barrister Aliyu Madaki, said Mrs. Wadada was on a statewide tour to empower women.

He urged the beneficiaries to judiciously utilize the funds to expand their businesses or start small-scale enterprises that would improve their economic wellbeing.

The event was attended by members of the Karu Council of Chiefs, women groups and beneficiaries of the empowerment scheme.
