Prince Adewole Adebayo has officially emerged as the presidential candidate for the Social Democratic Party (SDP) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The Ondo-born politician secured the ticket via a unanimous vote by delegates from all 36 states and the FCT during the party’s national convention, held Saturday at the Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Memorial Stadium in Bauchi.
In his acceptance speech, Adebayo vowed to rescue Nigeria from what he described as an alarming state of hunger, joblessness, and leadership failure.
He warned that the country is currently sliding toward “one-man rule,” alleging that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has abandoned internal democracy in favour of a centralized system of government.
“The real danger facing Nigeria is not a one-party state, but one-man rule. The APC waits for one person to decide everything for everybody. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is not satisfied with being the candidate for the APC alone; he wants to be the candidate of every party” he said.
Adebayo further accused the current administration of gross economic mismanagement, citing “trillions” in missing fuel subsidy savings and unprecedented borrowing that has failed to yield visible infrastructure or development.
“Trillions have disappeared without accountability. This government has borrowed more money than many administrations combined since independence, yet contractors remain unpaid and infrastructure lies abandoned” he alleged.
The SDP candidate outlined a vision centered on social welfare and justice, promising to launch a massive national jobs and public works programme to slash unemployment within his first two years in office.
He emphasized that the party would contest every elective position across the federation to address poverty through effective governance at the state and local levels.Warning Nigerians against making poor electoral choices in 2027,
Adebayo called for national unity to prevent a national tragedy of continued underperformance.
“Nigeria is not a private company, we must build a government that spends public money for the public good” he declared.
