Tiv community in Nasarawa South Senatorial District, under the auspices of Tiv Renewed Hope Grassroots Movement, Nasarawa State, has said that aspirants seeking for leadership positions in the zone should prioritize the security of lives and property, particularly the villages and farmlands where the Tiv people are carrying out their farming activities.
They made their mind known today in Lafia, during a meeting with Dr. Yusuf Agabi, who is aspiring to represent the Nasarawa South in the upper chambers of the National Assembly.
Speaking shortly after the meeting, the chairman of the group, Hon. Solomon Chunku said the Tiv people are facing a lot security challenges with most of them from Doma now in Internally Displaced Persons Camps (IDPs) in Agyragu, Giza and other places, asking the State government and people in position of authority to ensure that their safety at home and the farms are guaranteed.
” I am calling on the State government to intervene in our case most of Tiv people in Doma are now taking refuge in Agyragu, Giza and other places I am calling on the authorities to intervene so that the people will go back to their villages and continue with their farming activities” he lamented.
According to him, the Tiv people have not adopted any candidates but will work with candidates who has a blueprint for them
“For us Tiv in Nasarawa State everyone one is our own there is in no candidate that we have adopted but today we have agreed that as far as he has called us identify with us we we will work with him.
Speaking earlier, the aspirant, hon. Yusuf Agabi who is a member of the All Progressive Congress, said he was glad interacting with the Tiv people in his zone, who have agreed to be his backbone as he seek to contest for a Senatorial seat at the National Assembly, promising to fulfill their demands and aspirations if he sail through.
He said “By the grace of God, I am an indigene of Nasarawa South Senatorial district and if I go to the National Assembly, I am certainly going to work in collaboration with the government at the federal level, with also with the government at the State level as well as the government at the local level, together when we put our heads, we are going to have success”
“We are going to succeed, we will drive away insecurity, we will allow people to go to their farms and they are going to do their harvest and enjoy their lives very well” he added.
