Jos, Plateau State – The Environmental Protection and Sanitation Agency (PEPSA) has sealed a locally brewed gin service centre, known as “Burkutu Joint
“, in Utan, for operating in unhygienic conditions. The facility was found to be lacking in toilets and urinals, posing a risk to public health.
According to the officer who led the enforcement team, the owner of the building was served an abatement notice but refused to take corrective measures, leaving PEPSA with no option but to seal the premises.

PEPSA is committed to stopping open defecation in the state and calls on owners of properties, shopping complexes, and those who manage eateries, bars, and locally brewed beer houses to build and operate functional toilets to avoid fine or sealing their business premises.
The agency will continue to advocate and educate stakeholders on the need to keep Plateau clean, adding that the task of taking care of our environment is a collective responsibility of all, and it behooves us to take ownership of our environment.
