Baseball and Softball will be part of the games to be competed for in the 2025 Nigerian University Games slated for November 5 to 16, 2025 in Jos, Plateau State, signaling a quantum leap for the sport at the elite educational level.
The announcement was made by the executive committee of the Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA).
The groundbreaking decisione was made by NUGA committee during their recent Council meeting, following series presentation and insightful email from the executive of the Nigerian Baseball and Softball Association (NBSA).
The committee however urged NBSA to organize dynamic demonstrations of these exciting sports at the games scheduled to take place from November 5 to 16 in Jos, Plateau State.
The Executive Chairman expressed that the demonstration will not only elevate the spirit of the games but also prepare member universities for the 2026 championship.
The NBSA in it reaction, lauded the decision, stating that showcasing baseball and softball at the championship level will greatly benefit the players in tertiary institutions across the country, adding that the move is a significant step towards increasing the presence of these sports in different regions of Nigeria.
It would be recalled that Baseball, Softball and Little League sports in Nigeria, suffered neglect for more than two decades, with the various parks and pitches across the country abandoned including the one at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Abuja, until the narrative was changed with the emergence of a formidable management team led by Hon. Uche Odozor, who’s election earlier this year, has seen the games returning to various parks and fields across the country with ultimate goals of featuring in the Olympic games.
