The concerned citizen of Bauchi state, Shehu Abubakar kilbori has called on the management of the state’s owned university, Sa’adu Zungur University Gadau to be transparent and accountable in the way and manner it implement the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) it signed with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
This was contained in a press statement signed and made available to journalists in Bauchi.
Kilbori stated that the MoU was reached following the swift fatherly intervention of Governor Bala Mohammed in December, 2024.
“The attention of concerned stakeholders has been drawn to recent disturbing revelations surrounding the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the Sa’adu Zungur University Administration.”
”It would be recalled that following the timely and fatherly intervention of His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, in December 2024, the Union suspended its strike action after a peaceful resolution was reached and a comprehensive MoU was signed to address long-standing grievances.”
“His Excellency also graciously approved an increase in the University’s monthly subvention to facilitate the resolution of these issues. However, recent updates from the ASUU Congress Communiqué dated 19th June 2025 and two subsequent Special Bulletins have raised serious concerns. It appears that the University Administration is frustrating the implementation of the MoU, barely halfway into the agreed timeframe” he said
He disclosed that some of the worrying allegations include: Withholding essential verification data related to staff entitlements and arrears, Shifting agreed timelines and commitments, and the reported non-payment of staff salaries for May, 2025.
According to him, “Equally troubling is the reported involvement of the Department of State Services (DSS), following the publication of the Union’s Communiqué. This indicates rising tensions and a potentially volatile situation that could have been avoided through proactive engagement and transparency,”
“As a stakeholder and concerned citizen of the State, I find these developments not only unfortunate but also a threat to the spirit of partnership and progress envisioned by His Excellency. The failure to implement the MoU faithfully undermines the Governor’s goodwill and risks reigniting industrial disharmony on campus.”
He called on all relevant authorities, especially the University Management, to uphold the principles of transparency, dialogue, and accountability.
“I also join other concerned stakeholders in respectfully urging His Excellency to consider the following: Commissioning a progress audit to assess the status of the MoU implementation and requesting the immediate submission and consideration of the Visitation Panel’s report.”
”Also, issuing a firm reminder to the University Administration to act in good faith and align its operations with the expectations of the Bauchi State Government and the general public.” He said
