The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Art, Culture, and Creative Economy, Senator Mohammed Ogoshi Onawo, has called on Nigerian youths to embrace hard work, patience, and perseverance to develop skills essential for national economic growth.
Senator Onawo made this appeal in Keffi during a reception in honour of his legislative aide, Dr Taimako Sunday, who was recently awarded a doctorate in Economics by Nasarawa State University, Keffi.
“The global economy is shifting towards creativity and innovation,” Senator Onawo said. “Our youths must harness their potential and focus their energy on skill development and entrepreneurial pursuits to contribute meaningfully to national progress.”
The event, held on December 15, 2024, attracted family members, friends, top government officials, and academics who gathered to celebrate Dr. Sunday’s academic achievement.

In his keynote address, Dr. Vincent Paul, a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Entrepreneurial Studies at Nasarawa State University, emphasized the importance of perseverance and mentorship. “Success is built on patience, determination, and the ability to utilize opportunities,” he said. “I urge young people to adopt these virtues and work towards self-reliance.”
Goodwill messages poured in from dignitaries, including Senator Suleiman Adokwe and former Chairman of the Eggon Youth Movement, Mr. Isaac Kigbu, who described Dr. Sunday’s accomplishment as a testament to resilience and dedication. “The youth have a valuable lesson to learn from this feat,” Kigbu remarked.
Speaking to journalists after the event, Dr Taimako Sunday encouraged young Nigerians to remain focused despite the country’s economic challenges. “Stay committed to your dreams and never give up, no matter the difficulties you face,” he said.

The occasion also featured the launch of the “Dan Taimako Educational Foundation,” aimed at supporting less-privileged students. Scholarships were awarded to indigent youths, including persons with disabilities, to help them pursue their education.
Dr Sunday’s achievement and the event’s initiatives serve as an inspiration for Nigerian youths to persevere and contribute to societal growth.
