The people of Lafia/Obi Federal Constituency are crying out for representation. For the past years, Abubakar Sarki Dahiru, the member representing the constituency, has been absent and inaccessible.
Despite being re-elected for a third term, he has failed to provide support to his constituents during a time of hardship, poverty, and hunger.
The good and peace loving people of the Lafia-Obi Federal constituency are left in a state of confusion, dilemma and lamentations as to whether they have a representative or not.
Also known as Maiyamma or Chop Chop, Sarki Dahiru, unlike his colleagues whose impacts are being felt by their constituents, is no where to be found at a time that his constituents needed him because of present hardship, poverty and hunger in the land.
It is a statement of fact that the federal government gave federal lawmakers palliatives to distribute to the people as part of deliberate efforts towards cushioning the hardship occasioned by the removal of fuel subsidy.
The palliative include items like foodstuffs and fertilizer to encourage farmers and also support the vulnerable persons.
We are all living witnesses to how members representing other constituencies in Nasarawa State including that of the state house of assembly shared the palliatives to their people but Dahiru is nowhere to be found.
There are speculations that Dahiru sold a trailer load of fertilizer in Akwanga market instead of giving it to the direct beneficiaries.
It was also alleged that Dahiru who holds the traditional title of Garkuwan Lafia also diverted the bags of rice meant for his constituents, to private use.
Now the people of lafia/Obi constituency are asking: where is our palliatives?
Just recently, majority of federal lawmakers went back to their respective constituencies to empower youth, women and other vulnerable persons with skills, Cars, Motorcycles, Sewing machines, Refrigerators, Grinding machines and funds to enable them become self reliant.
Most lawmakers also worked extra hard to get employment opportunities in MDA’S and paramilitary establishments for their constituents, attracted federal government present in terms of roads infrastructure under constituency development projects but for the people of lafia/Obi federal constituency is just a mirage as their representative, Dahiru is nowhere to be found.
Garkuwan Lafia is inaccessible in office or at the constituency level. He can only be reached by special people or can only be seen at ‘big men’ events, his phones are always not available or switched off.
Sources close to his office reveal that as a member of Committee on Appropriation, Garkuwan Lafia has been selling job slots and constituency development projects to outsiders and using the money for personal gains.
For three times, Abubakar Sarki Dahiru has collected the names of electorates to benefit from federal government support fund but nobody is yet to get a dine while others are busy receiving alerts under the same programmes courtesy of their federal lawmakers.
Where are the solar lights installation projects facilitated by federal lawmakers? a peep at Lafia and Obi towns there is nothing to see on the streets.
The lawmaker’s action according to the source was based on the fact that he claimed to have bought the seat from the people so it is time for him to recover his money before considering the people.
Worried by this poor representation, some concerned groups are now making a strong move aim at sensitising the people of Lafia/Obi federal constituency on the need to recall Dahiru which is gathering momentum as a lot of people have endorsed it.
The move according to them will serve as a deterrent for any elected representative who takes his people for granted.
While this move gathers momentum, the question remains: where is Abubakar Sarki Dahiru?
