FRSC deploys 1, 350 personnel to ensure a hitch-free Sallah celebration in Nasarawa

Corps Commander Lucia Samuel-Mhii, Nasarawa State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) says the command had deployed 1, 350 personnel including Special Marshals to ensure smooth movements of vehicles before, during and after the forthcoming Eid-el-kabir celebration.

The sector commander who made the disclosure o newsmen on Saturday in Lafia, Nasarawa State capital, said that their target is to reduce road crashes during this period and beyond.

“Objectives of the special patrol is to reduce road traffic crashes fatalities, and injuries, ensure prompt response to victims, and guarantee unhindered obstruction on the highway,” she said.

Samuel-Mhii also explained that the command had commenced aggressive enforcement of traffic regulation to address the increasing rate of road crashes.

“We are working in collaboration with the judiciary and Nigeria Bar Association to prosecute violators of traffic rules in order to serve as deterrent to potential offenders.

“We set up mobile courts responsible for trying and sanctioning those caught over-peedimg, dangerous overtaking and driving as well as overloading on the spots.

“So many violators were apprehended and sanctioned so far and the vehicles of those who could not pay their fines were impounded on the order of the courts, she added.

The sector commander also said that they have deployed all operational vehicles, ambulances, road side help areas, zebra points for swift crash response.

She said they have also re-equipped their road traffic clinic at Shabu community of Lafia and set up a situation room to monitor and respond promptly to distress.

The sector commander used the medium and appreciated journalists and media organisations for thier support to the command in its effort to reduce crashes in the state.

She also expressed gratitude to National Union of Road Transport Workers, Motorcycle union as well as union of vehicles owners for their collaboration and support.

She therefore called on road users to desist from driving or ridding under the influence of harmful substances and obey traffic rules in order to make the highways. (NAN).
