Lobi Star of Benue state has beaten Plateau United with 1- 0 in the ongoing Under 17 Nigeria Premier Football League Zonal Playoff on Friday in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital.
Samson Iorshase’s first-half strike 18 minutes into the game sealed victory for the Makurdi-based youngsters at Lafia City Stadium.
Dominic Iorfa, Vice Chairman, Nigeria premier football League and Chief Executive Officer of Lobi Stars, described the game as good one, as he noted that Lobi Stars took home advantage to win Plateau United.
Iorfa said that the Lobi Stars was likely to qualify to the next stage having won their matches.
“It is local debut, the match is played like local debut, we took home advantage and we won, plateau has a lot of chances and is not their day, so at the end of the day we won.
“And likely, we are going to qualify for the next stage so we give glory to God, the game was is very explosive for the two teams and we won by luck,” he said.
Murtala Habila, General Manager, Plateau United, said his team was defeated not because they didn’t play well but it was not their luck.
“We haven’t lost hope until tomorrow, tomorrow’s match will determine who is actually going qualify to lead the North Central zone.
“It is a good match, we look forward to more of this, and I want to say to my team that is he who fights and run away that lives to fight another day.
“So we are looking forward to another day to fight again, so whatever that happens is a football, our sincere prayer is that whoever may emerge from this zone, let them represent this zone very well,” he said.(NAN)
