
Arch. James Yahana has called for regular maintenance of public building and facilities to avoid incessant collapse and other safety threats.
The architect who is based at Akwanga Local Government Area (LGA) of Nasarawa State, made the call in an interview with newsmen on Wednesday in Lafia.
He said regular maintenance would afford the facilities managers the opportunity to dictate any fault early enough in order to correct it before it becomes a threat and lead to disaster.
Arch. Yahana also called on the public to hire the services of qualified architect and engineers and ensure standard is maintained to avoid incessant collapse of structures.
He also called on the relevant authorities in the building and housing sector to ensure proper monitoring and supervision of the activities of professionals to ensure adherence to ethics.

“The agencies of government should make sure all building, especially large structures follow due process and gets the necessary approval before construction is allowed,” he added.
Commenting on the recent incident where an elevator collapsed and led to a death of a medical Doctor at Logos State, the expert advised facility managers to ensure regular maintenance of elevators to protect lives.
“It is important for anybody using elevator to feel safe and secure while using it.
“Incidents of trappings of people while using the elevator and malfunctioning of the machine would be avoided if the technicians were engaged to carry out appropriate maintenance and repairs,” he added. (NAN).
