Gov. Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has debunked the media reports alleging that he plotted the exit of Abdullahi Adamu, immediate past National Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC) and Sen. Umaru Al-Makura from the state politics.
Some section of the media had recently reported that the governor had planned to retire the duo from the politics of the state.
Mr. Peter Ahemba, Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the governor on Public Affairs denied the reports at a press conference on Tuesday in Lafia.
According to the SSA, the attention of the governor has been drawn to a media publication in one of the national dailies with the headline: “How Gov Sule Plotted the Exit of Adamu, Makura in Nasarawa Politics”.
He said that ordinarily the governor would not have bothered responding to this mischievous publication because it was aimed at causing unnecessary friction between the him and two of his predecessors and leaders of the party in the state.
He explained that the government had decided to address the issue to put things in their proper perspectives.
“To start with, it is public knowledge that the governor has remained consistent in his support to his predecessor, Al-Makura in all his political endeavours, including the 2023 Senatorial election which he re-contested.
“Even though the election went the other way round, Al-Makura himself demonstrated uncommon spirit of statesmanship by voluntarily withdrawing his petition challenging the outcome of the election from the tribunal.

“The governor had also included the name of Al-Makura among the three names from the state to be appointed as a minister as requested by President Bola Tinubu.
“But the president who has the prerogative for appointment of Ministers selected one out of the three names submitted from the state.
“The governor does not have powers to appoint a minister and even the author of the reports knows that,” the SSA added.
Mr. Ahemba also explained that the governor had nothing to do with the recent resignation of Adamu as the National Chairman of APC.
The governor’s aide explained that the resignation of Adamu was as a result of internal disagreement among members of the National Working Committee of APC and has nothing to do with the governor.
He further said that the relationship between the governor and other leaders of the party is intact, adding that the difference only exist in the imagination of the author of the publication.
He therefore said the governor has tremendous respect for founding fathers of the state including Adamu and Al-Makura and called on members of the public to disregard the publication in its entirety.
Adamu served as a governor of the state between 1999-2007 while Al-Makura served from 2011-2019 respectively. (NAN).
