Stakeholders in Langtang South Local Government Area of Plateau State have endorsed President Bola Tinubu and Governor Caleb Mutfwang for second terms in office.
The stakeholders also approved Governor Mutfwang’s decision to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and passed a vote of confidence on the Chairman of Langtang South Local Government Council, Hon. Nanfa Nbin.
The decisions were reached during a stakeholders’ meeting organised by the Plateau State Intercessors Ministry on Thursday at the Langtang South Local Government Education Office Hall in Mabudi.
Speaking at the event, the convener, Hon. Naanlong Sadiq, said the meeting was organised to cascade the vision and programmes of the Governor Caleb Mutfwang-led administration to stakeholders at the grassroots level. He explained that the governor’s decision to join the APC was aimed at aligning the state with the President Bola Tinubu-led Federal Government to attract more development to Plateau State.
Convinced by the position of the Plateau State Intercessors Ministry, the stakeholders unanimously endorsed President Tinubu and Governor Mutfwang for continuity in 2027.
In his remarks, Mr. Nimyel Nantim Johnson commended the governor’s ongoing developmental efforts in other parts of the state and appealed for similar projects to be extended to Langtang South. He listed some of the community’s needs to include the Sabon Gida–Barracks Road, the Mabudi–Fajul Road, and the establishment of a tertiary institution in the area.
Hon. Dauda Kunkum, Director of Research and Documentation in the local government, noted that Langtang South gave the governor overwhelming support during the last election and deserved greater attention.
The stakeholders also observed that Langtang North/Langtang South Federal Constituency is the only constituency in Plateau State without a clear zoning arrangement. They appealed for the introduction of a zoning formula between the two local governments to ensure fairness and inclusion.
They further appealed for support to retain the House of Representatives seat in Langtang South in 2027, noting that it is the first time the area has occupied the position since the return of democracy in 1999.
At the end of the meeting, the endorsement of the governor’s defection and the call for the retention of the House of Representatives seat were subjected to a voice vote, which was unanimously affirmed by participants.
The meeting was attended by traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth and women groups, among other stakeholders. A special prayer session was also held for political office holders and for good governance at all levels in the country.
