The Bauchi State chapter of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has joined the nationwide peaceful protest organised by labour unions to draw attention to the worsening security situation across the country.

The protesters, led by the State NLC Chairman, Comrade Dauda Maidara Shaiubu, marched to the Bauchi Government House, where they expressed deep concern over the escalating cases of banditry, kidnapping, insurgency, and other criminal activities threatening lives and livelihoods nationwide.

Addressing government officials, Comrade Shaiubu described insecurity as a threat to national stability, economic growth, and the wellbeing of workers and their families.

He noted that persistent security challenges have affected workers’ productivity and forced many Nigerians to live in constant fear.

According to him, the national leadership of the NLC directed all state chapters to participate in the protest as a demonstration of solidarity with victims of insecurity and as a call for urgent and decisive action from authorities at all levels of government.

He stressed that organised labour could no longer remain silent while the lives and livelihoods of workers are endangered, emphasising that security remains the foundation of development, social justice, and sustainable economic progress.

While commending the Bauchi State Government for maintaining a cordial relationship with organised labour and for implementing policies aimed at improving workers’ welfare, the NLC Chairman called for increased investment in security infrastructure, improved intelligence gathering, and strengthened community-based policing to curb the growing threat.

Receiving the protesters on behalf of Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, the Private Principal Secretary to the Governor, Alhaji Adamu Kumbala, described security as a shared responsibility that requires the collective support of labour unions, traditional rulers, and community leaders.

He assured the NLC that the Bauchi State Government remains committed to protecting lives and property, adding that the administration continues to work closely with security agencies to enhance surveillance and response mechanisms across the state.

Alhaji Kumbala stated that Governor Bala Mohammed accords high priority to security in the state and has consistently supported initiatives aimed at maintaining peace and stability, pledging to convey the concerns raised by the protesters to the Governor for prompt attention and necessary action.
