
The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has trained 325 if its personnel on handling Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) and Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) threats.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the participants were drawn from various commands across the 36 states of the country.
The four-week intensive exercise held at the Police Mobile Force Training College, Ende Hills, Nassarawa-Eggon Local Government Area of the State.
Speaking at the closing on Saturday, Hauwa Ibrahim, the Commissioner of Police incharge of EOD and CBRN at the Force Headquarters, said that the training marked a significant milestone in the history of NPF.
She noted that the move had transformed the participants into experts in EOD and CBRN operations.
The commissioner explained that the training which covered detection, identification and decontamination procedures, was part of the initiatives of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr Kayode Egbetokun, towards strengthening the force’s capability to tackle terrorism and related threats to national security.
She said that the IGP’s vision for professionalism, uprightness and operational efficiency had made the 2025 course possible and impactful towards building the capacities of personnel in line with global best practices.

“The trainees were exposed to the comprehensive package and techniques of modern anti terrorism skills and are capable of deactivating explosives as well as responding to CBRN threats, at the same time ensuring public safety.
“With the knowledge and skills you have acquired, I do not doubt that you will lead the fight against explosives planted by terrorists in your respective commands.
“You will also be of great assistance and support to the anti-bomb squads in your commands thereby helping the police force defeat terrorists and make the country safe for all citizens,” she said.
Ibrahim commended the participants on their commitment, dedication and discipline throughout the period of the course and urged them to sustain it in their daily operations.
She also commended the instructors and partners for their dedication and support towards ensuring that the police force builds its capacity to respond to emerging security threats.
Ibrahim urged members of the public to report any suspected explosives incident in their vicinities to the nearest police station for prompt response.
On his part, DCP Sunday Peter, the Commandant of the training college represented by CSP Alhassan Abdulazez, thanked the IGP for ensuring regular training and capacity building for the personnel towards efficiency and effective policing.
Peter, however, advised the participants to put the skills and knowledge gained into good use, adding that such move would ensure a safer nation and increase confidence in the capability of the police to tackle all security threats.
Speaking on behalf of the participants, PC Ahmed Ruth, who was the best participants in the 2025 EOD and CBRN Basic Course, from Kwara Command, thanked the IGP for the opportunity to participate in the training.
She promised that the participants would deploy the skills and knowledge gained during the exercise towards ensuring that the country is safe for all law-abiding citizens. (NAN)
