No fewer than 2000 residents of the Akurba community of Lafia, Nasarawa State, have benefited from the free medical services by the state chapter of the Medical Women Association of Nigeria (MWAN).

Speaking at the commencement of the services on Thursday in Akurba, Lafia, State President of the association Dr Esther Audu, said that the initiative was aimed at offering testing, counselling and treatment to the vulnerable groups.

“We have a mission to reach out to women, children and other vulnerable groups with healthcare services to fill in the gaps and contribute towards ensuring a healthy population.

“We are providing consultation, health education, drugs, testing, eye classes and cervical cancer screening for women and provide them with the necessary counselling.

“For those whose cases require surgery, they will be served on a first-come, first-served basis at the Federal University Teaching Hospital Lafia,” she added.

She appreciated the Nasarawa State Government and its agencies, Federal University Teaching Hospital Lafia and other unions in the medical sector for the support towards the success of the medical outreach.

The president noted that the outreach was part of the association’s corporate social responsibility to complement the efforts of the government and ease the lives of the beneficiaries.

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Zainab Mohammed and Abubakar Tinimu appreciated the association for the support.

The duo said that they were tested, counselled and given drugs without paying any money and pray that God should bless the organisers for the gesture. (NAN).
