Plateau State University Partners with Staff Cooperative Society to Improve Welfare

Plateau State University (PLASU), Bokkos is partnering with its staff cooperative society to improve services and staff welfare. 

Masara Kim, the institution’s acting Public Relation Officer in a statement said the collaboration was formalized with the groundbreaking ceremony for the cooperative’s new secretariat on the university’s campus on August 4th.

He said the Vice-Chancellor Professor Shedrack Best, expressed confidence that the partnership will create new opportunities for growth and development at the university. 

The VC who was represented by Associate Professor Keziah Ayuba, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Administration, congratulated the Plateau State University Staff Multipurpose Cooperative Society for launching projects that directly benefit its members.

“We look forward to improved cooperation between the cooperative society and the university management to enhance service delivery and the welfare of staff,” said Professor Best. 

The Vice Chancellor also reiterated the university’s commitment to supporting the project, “We’ll continue to support you in any way possible, including toward the completion of this project.”

Mr. Nansdl Nimyel, the president of the cooperative society, stated that the secretariat project, which will be constructed through direct labor, was initiated to improve the administration of the cooperative and provide better benefits to its members. “When we came on board, we pledged to collaborate with management to secure land for the building of our secretariat,” said Nimyel during the foundation-laying ceremony. He acknowledged the university’s donation of the land for the project, adding that the project was a part of his campaign promises and was recently approved by the cooperative’s congress.

In his remarks, Mr. Yakubu Ayuba, the university’s Registrar, highlighted the unique role of the cooperative in improving the lives of its members and expressed optimism about its future. “I feel delighted to be part of this journey,” he said. “When this cooperative society was born, some of us played key roles. We are delighted to see it growing and in fact, I see it establishing a bank.”

Associate Professor Shehu Alahde, the university’s Chief Librarian, also praised the cooperative, noting that he has been a member of a cooperative society since joining the civil service in 2000. He stated, “When I came to PLASU, I didn’t hesitate to join, knowing its importance.”
