FUTH Lafia begins clinic training of Medicine and Surgery students

The pioneer Medicine and Surgery Students of the Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) have begun their clinical training at the Federal University Teaching Hospital (FUTH).

The clinical training is part of the university’s programme to expose the students to advanced training to qualify them for the award of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS).

Speaking at an orientation ceremony for the students on Friday in Lafia, Dr Hassan Ikrama, pioneer Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the hospital, said that
their coming into the hospital is a transition from one phase of their training to another.

The CMD represented by Dr Aboje Aboje, Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee of the hospital, encouraged the pioneer students to take their training seriously in order to graduate as outstanding medical doctors.

Ikrama added that the clinical training programme was designed to equip students with hands-on experience in various medical departments.

“During this period of the clinical training, emphasis will be laid on Laboratory Medicine, in departments such as Anatomic Pathology and Forensic Medicine.

“Chemical Pathology and Immunology, Haematology and Blood Transfusion, Medical Microbiology and Parasitology, Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics among others,” he stressed.

The CMD further said that the training would utilise various facilitation techniques, including brainstorming, demonstrations, case scenarios, role-plays, video clips, and lectures.

He emphasised that this practical approach aims to produce highly competent medical doctors capable of practicing at different levels of the healthcare system in the world.

He therefore, appreciated the lecturers at the University for impacting the students thus far and assured that they would get the best training in line with best practice.

The orientation ceremony was attended by the Provost, College of Medicine, Deans, Head of Departments, and the hospital management staff. (NAN).
