The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has commended the Nasarawa State Emergency Management Agency (NASEMA) for effectively and promptly providing support to victims of disasters across the 13 Local Government Areas of the state.
Hon. Solomon Akwashiki (SDP, Lafia Central), Chairman of the House Committee on Public Account, gave the commendation while the management of the agency appeared before the committee for an oversight function.
Barr. Benjamin Akwash, newly appointed Director-Generar (DG) of the agency, led other management staff to the assembly to defend their budget performance for 1st quarter of 2025.
The committee chairman also said that he was impressed with how the agency had managed the funds allocated to it in the 2025 budget within the first quarter.
He urged the new Director-General to quickly settle down and attend to issues of emergencies that occurred recently in some parts of the state due to rainstorms.
He also promised that the assembly would ensure that the agency is properly funded to attend to issues of emergencies that might occur in any part of the state.
He added that the assembly members had received several calls from their constituents about disasters that had befalling them recently.

He further said the assembly had tabled those concerns of support before the agency for onward actions before the demise of the former DG of the agency.
He added that the committee’s responsibility is to oversight Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) of government and check their performances to ensure strict adherence to the budget and the law.
Earlier, the Director General of NASEMA appreciated the assembly and the committee members for the oversight aimed at ensuring good governance and better welfare to the citizenry.
Akwash emphasised that he would perform the responsibility assigned to him by Gov. Abdullahi Sule with the utmost sense of responsibility for the overall development of the state.
He also promised to cooperate and collaborate with the assembly and other stakeholders to ensure prompt response to emergencies to mitigate its effects. (NAN).
