The African College of Surgeons has inspected the Federal University Teaching Hospital (FUTH) Lafia’s Obstetrics and Gynecology programmes as part of its accreditation process for residency training.
The team from the College of Surgeons led by Prof. Silas Ochenjele inspected the two programmes on Tuesday in Lafia, Nasarawa State.

Speaking after the inspection, the leader of the team commended the management of the hospital for the quality and affordable medical services offered at the facility.
Ochenjele stressed that the large patient load at the hospital had made residency training more robust.
The leader added that patient load had enhanced residency training and offered medical doctors a wide range of experiences in their chosen specialties.

He, therefore, encouraged the hospital’s management to improve the welfare of consultants and residents to promote retention and mitigate brain drain.
Responding, Dr. Hassan Ikrama, pioneer Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the hospital, represented by the Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC), Dr. Aboje Aboje, expressed appreciation to the team for the visit.
The CMD, therefore, pledged to implement all the necessary improvements to enhance the department’s performance. (NAN).
