The Nasarawa State Government has donated operational vehicles to security agencies and traditional rulers as part of efforts towards curtailing rising spate of insecurity in some parts of the state.
During the distribution of the vehicles at the Government House in Lafia, Governor Abdullahi Sule called for stronger collaboration to tackle the security challenges facing the state.
While expressing concern over the persistent insecurity in the state, Governor Abdullahi Sule said the state government will not relent in playing its role to secure lives and property.
He called on the security agencies to be versatile and continue to work in harmony in the area of intelligence gatherings, information sharing and on the spot response to distress calls.
Speaking on behalf of the security agencies the state Commissioner of Police Mr Adesina Soyemi represented by Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations, Mr Shehu Nadada said the security challenges facing the state were surmountable.
In the recent times the rate of insecurity in some parts of Nasarawa State especially the Northern Senatorial Zone of the state has continued to rise following persistent cases of kidnappings for ransom, armed robbery and banditry in the area.
A case in point is the recent kidnap of the state Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism Mr Yakubu Lawal from his residence in Nasarawa Eggon local government area and was released after spending four days in the hands of the abductors.
42 vehicles where distributed which makes it 171 the number of operational vehicles the state government has donated to security agencies in the last three years.
Vigilante Group, Hunters, Christian Association of Nigeria CAN and Jama’atul Nasril Islam, JNI as well as some government agencies were among the beneficiaries of the vehicles.
