Conference of Speakers in Nigeria to harmonized Standing Order for States Assemblies 

says the application of uniform Standing Order in State Houses of Assembly, will strengthen and harmonized an effective Legislative frame work.

Chairman Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria and Speaker of Bauchi State House of Assembly, Abubakar Suleiman, said the application of uniform Standing Order in State Houses of Assembly, will strengthen and harmonized an effective Legislative frame work.

He made this at a One Day Workshop on Harmonizing the Standing Orders of the State Houses of Assembly in Nigeria, organized by Konrad Adenauer Stiftung in Collaboration with the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies, held at Fraser Suit Abuja.

Speaker Plateau State House of Assembly, Yakubu Sanda, who is also the Vice Chairman North Central of the Speakers underscores the importance of having a harmonized Standing Orders of the Houses of Assembly, as it will help in regulating the rules and activities of the State Assemblies.

He described the Workshop as apt in-view of the fact that the Legislature will witness another face of legislative session in 2023, hence the need to have a harmonized Standing Orders that will help in the smooth conduct of the House proceedings.

Resident Representative of Kondrad Adenauer Stiftung, Nigeria, Marija Peran, noted that the Workshop is part of their support in strengthening the Legislative process and good Governance in Nigeria.

Statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Plateau State Speaker, Sabastine Hommuk said papers presented at the Workshop includes: “An Overview of Standing Orders of Legislative Houses, Structure and Content Analysis”.

Others were, “Application of Standing Orders in Chamber Proceedings” and “Introduction to Uniform Standing Orders in the State Houses of Assembly: Background, Objectives, Issues and Matters Arising”.
